INTEGRATES at BIM Days 2026 

INTEGRATES took part in the BIM Days 2026, organised by IDM Alto Adige on 21–22 May in Bolzano. The two-day event brought together professionals from across the construction sector to discuss the use of BIM during construction, operation and maintenance phases, with a strong focus on practical implementation.

The first day focused on the role of BIM during the execution phase and its continuity across the lifecycle. 

Several contributions highlighted a recurring issue: fragmentation of processes and loss of information between phases. Presentations emphasised the need to maintain BIM models as living, up-to-date tools, able to support decision-making beyond design. 

Case studies from building and infrastructure projects showed how BIM is increasingly used for: 

• coordination between disciplines 
• monitoring of works and progress 
• management of site data and documentation 

A key contribution aligned with the INTEGRATES approach was presented by Alessio Sarcina and Davide Madeddu (One Team). 

Their presentation introduced an integrated BIM–GIS approach to support the sustainable management of the building lifecycle, starting directly from the construction site. 

The intervention focused on three core aspects: 

1. monitoring of data in construction 
2. traceability of processes and information flows 
3. progressive construction of a digital building file

A digital building record was presented as a structured way to ensure that all information generated during construction is not lost, but organised and maintained over time. 

Interactive workshops complemented the presentations by focusing on data flows along the building lifecycle. 

Participants analysed real processes from procurement to operation, identifying: 

• interruptions and redundancies in information exchange 
• mismatches between stakeholders’ needs 
• opportunities for improving integration. 

The second day expanded the focus to operation, maintenance and long-term asset management. 

Several presentations showed how BIM is applied in practice to support the management of complex projects and assets. The case of Waltherpark in Bolzano illustrated how BIM can be used in construction management to support technical control, scheduling and cost monitoring (4D/5D), as well as coordination between disciplines and the management of non-conformities. 

The discussions at BIM Days 2026 reflect core challenges addressed by INTEGRATES: 

• fragmentation of data and processes 
• lack of continuity across lifecycle phases 
• need for structured and shared information flows 
• increasing relevance of lifecycle data, Digital Twins and long-term asset management. 

These insights confirm the relevance of INTEGRATES, which focuses on interoperable digital tools and workflows to support continuous information exchange and more effective decision-making across the building lifecycle.
